Assessments

As mentioned before a section can have one of many assessments. Click the assessments tab in the sections area to see the available assessments.

When you first create a course, a blank assessment is automatically included. Also note that if you have added a SCORM package there will be a locked assessment here.

You can add another assessment by clicking the Add assessment button, however typically you will just edit the existing assessment by clicking on it's name.

From here you can edit the name on the assessment, add internal or external codes, add a description and set some variables as explained in the following table.

Number of questions to ask

If you have a question bank of 100 questions, you can specify that only 20 of them are asked. These 20 questions will be chosen at random for each user.

Pass mark (%)

You can specify the pass mark that the user will be deemed competent. If this is left blank it is assumed the all questions asked must be answered correctly.

Number of attempts

This will limit the number of attempts a user can have to answer the question correctly.

If left blank unlimited attempts are allowed. If a user exceeds the number of attempts allowed, an assessor will need to authorise further attempts.

Assessor only

The assessment is locked to users and can only be completed by an assessor. This is used for practical assessments.

Lock message

The message is shown to the user if an assessment is locked as 'Assessor only'.

Randomise questions

This will randomise the questions so that they are not asked in the same order everytime.

View all material first

Users must view all of the training material in this section before the assessment can be attempted.

When finished click the save button.

Adding Questions

Add question by clicking the Questions tab.

To add a new question click Add Question. There are four types of questions:

Multichoice

Multichoice is the preferred question method for online, as they can be marked automatically by the system. Select Multiple choice from the drop down menu. Type the question text. Then type the first answer option in the Question options field. Add another answer option by clicking the Add question option button (indicated below).

Indicate the correct answer (there can be more than one) by clicking the Is Correct toggle switch.

Then click the Save button.

You can also add assessor notes or a link to the answer if required. Once finished close the dialogue box.

Repeat this step to add the other options.

Free text

This question type requires an assessor to read the response given by the learner and determines whether they are competent or not. This will be explained later on.

To use this option select Free text from the drop down and type the question in the Words section.

Upload

The upload question is used for assignments or other evidence to show that the learner understands the content. To pass this option, the learner must upload a document to the assessor for marking.

To use this option select File Upload from the drop down and type the instructions in the Words section.

Matched Pairs

Matched pairs allows you to click and drag the answer to a defined list. Select Matched Pair from the Type drop down.

Type in the question text and then add the first matched pair. Note the system will jumble the 2nd column responses when showing the assessment.

Add additional matched pairs by clicking the Add question pair button.
